Do you have to deal with dry skin in the winter? Making your own coconut oil lotion with essential oils soothing cream can help resolve your dry skin!

I don’t have to really worry about it the rest of the year, but once cold weather starts moving in, my hands get very, very dry.

I’ve tried many different lotions, and some have worked better than others. But the best solution I’ve found is this DIY simple soothing skin balm made with essential oils and coconut oil.

Making your own DIY essential oils skin cream only requires two ingredients and is really simple to create! Obviously, you can add more ingredients to customize it even further, but that’s not necessary.

Here are the two main things you will need:

1. Coconut Oil

This soothing skin lotion recipe starts with one basic ingredient, coconut oil.

Coconut oil is a fabulous ingredient for skin and it is a perfect carrier oil for essential oils. It is a rich oil that can nourish and protect the driest of skin.

Here are a few of the benefits of using coconut oil:

  • natural skin moisturizer
  • antibacterial properties
  • soothing

2. Lavender Essential Oil

The second ingredient in this soothing coconut oil lotion is lavender essential oil (or any other oil of your choosing, but I like lavender best!).

It is a great ingredient for providing soothing and calming relief to dry skin. And it just smells good!

Here are some of the best essential oil combinations to use for any skin cream:

  • Lavender & Eucalyptus
  • Chamomile & Lavender
  • Rosemary & Lavender
  • Ylang Ylang, Lavender & Chamomile

This easy recipe couldn’t be simpler.

Place ¾ cup organic coconut oil (solid) into a glass bowl. Whip with a hand mixer until is has a creamy texture — usually 4-6 minutes. (You can also use fractionated coconut oil if you prefer to have a serum instead of a cream texture.)

Add 12-15 drops of lavender essential oil. Mix with the hand-mixer until both are thoroughly combined.

Spoon the cream into a small glass jar and cover tightly when not in use. Store it in a cool and dark location.

Using the coconut oil lotion

To use this DIY coconut oil lotion with essential oil, simply dip clean fingers into the cream and scoop out a palm-sized amount.

Massage into clean, dry skin.

This recipe works very well for hands and face. And is especially nice on dry, cracked winter feet.

Of course, this is a great basic recipe to creating your own combinations.

Try a different essential oil or add some extra Vitamin E for a greater antioxidant boost.

You could also add some sweet almond oil or Shea butter if you have extremely dry skin. It’s very easy to customize your own soothing skin balm.

It’s simple enough to make your own soothing skin cream (and it is chemical free!) and nice enough that you could make up pretty little jars to give away as gifts.
